this is how i setup my server

ok here we go....lol,

1st = You need sql2000 preferrably not the eval but the real version...then you need the sql files which are downloadable from tkss or you can just look for them(they are around and about on more then one web site)When you have got it install it.Making sure you use mixed mode to access sql server as we'll need this later on when server is ready to make acc's etc

2nd == Run Sql script on sql server, use query analyser and when it is open and you have logged into your sql server, press the open button on top left next to save button and goto mainlogin.sql file, parse the file by pressing the green arrow at top along task bar, once that has been done then press the Blue Tick, then press the save button.(BTW I used Rage's scripts to make it easy for everyone to use)

3rd = Do the same for the WS1.sql file, but you must do WS1 second as this injects more tables into the db.. :)

4th = next goto OBDC,Which is located in administrator Tools folder in Control Panel..Open System DSN and make a new sql server named Account,it'll ask you for a server to use and make sure it is LOCAL,Next screen how to login into sql...make sure you use your SA user to login with the appropreate password, click next, now click change the default db to > to point to mainlogin, once that is done click if you want the stats to be logged, once that is done then press the finish button.Make sure you test it by pressing the Test Data Source Button..OK you have setup the db access etc.

5th =Now comes the tricky part,Setting up the server,Hex the mainlserver and find where account is(press ctrl+F to open Find and put account into it)that will take you to where the sa/password is in mainlserver, change the password to what you have setup for your SA password in sql.Make sure you save the change.Next do the same to WorldLserver. save. now you are set to at least start Gate, main, world servers...we can leave the map servers till later.

6th = start Gate,Main,World it should say connecting to db etc you should see that in login details when you start it(Make sure you press the HOME key to Activate it)Download accountmaker 2.02 and and change your ip to your ip so when you make your acc it will take you to your server,Make account. To check this Open Enterprise Manager in Sql and click SQL server Group,(LOCAL)(Windows NT),Databases, mainlogin, and Right click ACCOUNT_T table and select Open Table/Return all Rows, check to see if your account is there. If it is there everything is going to plan.. :)Now we can start at looking at HG's

7th = Starting HG's...now comes the frustrating part.... goto your game server folder and make sure you have your ip in config, etc like starting previous servers you start with 1 at a time, now MAKE sure when you start it you pay attention to the gate-socket-login count...it should start from gate-socket-log 0 and then count to 9 then activate..be paitient might not start first time depending on youyr computer specs, everything going well it should start with no problems.

8th = Client setup..Now either you have the 3.72 client or 3.51 doesn matter, you still have to HEX the p into each one.....First is 3.72,open your Hex editor and open the search.dll file that came with the 3.72 client...search for the word Bought...just above that is where you put your ip...save close and you're done..you can now start the client...Second is 3.51 Client..open your HEX editor and open the 3.51 client... search for Checksum error and it will take you to where the ip should be..change it to your ip...save..close and you're done. You should be able to use either client now to login and use the account you made..

YOU HAVE A WORKING SQL SERVER NOW and ENJOY IT

From here you can customise your server to pretty much what ever but bear in mind that if you change too much you start to move awayfrom how game was intended and how HG's read the cfg's etc.

Best advise i can give everyone who is thinking about making and running a server is HAVE THE BEST SPEC'D COMPUTER you can afford.. it will help with lagg and running of server, also make sure you have Mountains of Bandwidth as well... no point running a server on a 256k connection as you'll be only be able to have maybe 5- 10 people to login before there is HUGE LAG..

My Computer specs are p4 3 gig cpu,1 gig ddr ram running at 333 mhz,and sata hard drive which run a maximum bandwidth of 150 mb's / sec Running on 100MB lan connected to a 2 meg internet connection DL but my Upload connection is only 128 kb so i cannot host...even run a server which sux's.so you gotta have a lot of download speed and upload speed to make it viable.. :D ( This is my Desktop computer).

My Server is a P4 2.26 mhz,780 ddr ram, sata hd connected to a 100mb lan etc etc same details etc BOTH run at about 20% resources which is awesome..

Hope this helps all you peeps

why can't I use 3.72 client with my SQL server? it forcelogouts me right after loging in:-/

bandwith is the smallest problem... I have hosted 100+ ppl with 256kbit/s upload and no lagg problem.. mostly you need load of RAM.. this is most important thing

EDIT: nvm... got it work.. my version of 3.72 client sucked...
