PlayStation Portable
Hello
Long time i wasnt on outpost. I just quit HB, im bored Since i joined "famous" PSP dev team, everyday i want port Helbreath into PSP version (pro C skills, extra enviroment for homebrew, etc).
First of all let me show you PSP specification
<a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable' target='_blank'>from wiki</a>
Im sure good coded client will work without hangs
Dont worry about server, its available (nice connection, professional dedicated server) and dont worry about players.
Any of you - developers - have PSP with custom firmware? I need your help
It has been just started so its alot of work...
Graphic engine needs to be recoded (gay korean that coded sh!t), Music needs to be converted, PAK also (imho use PNGs instead of BMPs).
I have some people in team but they are not knowing much about HB and its physics.
And dont write posts like "hb portable? uselles sh**", Im just asking for good programmers with PSP.
and dont flame me

eh.. what was it.. 32mb ram? Good luck running HB with that.. even if you optimize shit, the only way I see that happening is by destroying sprites right as they leave your screen and only holding mapdata that's like within a 20 tile radius.

So why GTA Vice City Stories runs without any delay, Killzone Liberation on multiplayer without any delay...bone-you wrote: eh.. what was it.. 32mb ram? Anyway, map can be stored in 4mb ram, buffer too. Char sprites can be stored in 32mb main ram, item sprites can be loaded dynamically...
IMO Its worth this cause of NOT existing mmorpgs on psp. HB is nice, and have alot of capabilities.
If any of you have PSP, OE, and knows bout SDK then we can try. Anyway HB is dead...

Sounds interesting but HB sprites? Use stick figures if you have to lol. Just give yourself complete freedom. HB locks you into too much and limits player actions/armours/everything. Also it wouldnt hurt to have NPC with some more actions, and possible running.
Moral of my post; do somthing new.

I think about doing 3d model of characters (so most of it will be like Killzone for PSP). It will take around 100kb instead of ~100pngs. It will take alot of time and for now, me and my team will try to re-make MMO with pokemon graphics B) ...Anyway Pokemon was good RPG.Dax wrote: Sounds interesting but HB sprites? Also, PSP gives some limitation like 32mb ram... The game needs alot of optimization.
We learn something about doing online games and come back to HB

Nice idea, tho id personally like to see it running under Linux. Not under WINE (wich it does work with) or some other emulator.
Theres a few little Linux or Hybrid hand helds around ATM that should be abel to handel it. GP2X should be abel to handel it, Gizimondo (if they were still making them) the Zaurus maybe and a host of other up and coming hand helds. PSP has had some small sucess in getting linux up and running too and theres also Linux avalible for several other consoles including PS2 and PS3 (Sony even sells the kits)
So maybe a Linux port would open a whole lot of doors for the HB world and bring in some new blood

New blood? If someone was going to port it to linux, it'd just be more idiots that think they can code because they can use linux that would attempt to work with this crap.

Nah man, i was talking about players.
HB is pretty much dead these days, but theres a load of portable wireless machines around that should be capable of running it. If HB was ported to a form that is common to many of these devices, then it wouldnt be hard for people who are already involved in making home brew games to get it running on their specific device.

Im not sure, but i know there is Mac emulator, and uClinux development (linux loads, can display some sprites, basic programs)PHoeNiX_ wrote: Nice idea, tho id personally like to see it running under Linux. Not under WINE (wich it does work with) or some other emulator.

But HB rather not run on Linux port due to low memory.

For what HB is, it seems to require alot of your PC.
I remember first running it on somthing like Pentium2 233mhz with 128 meg of ram. Never seemed to go slow back then, tho if i run it on an old PC these days, it seems TERRIBLE.
Point is, it can run on a pretty poor system as is, with windows runing hoggin recources. So I dont see why it couldnt be made to run on a PDA or Phone or PSP when alot of these devices have the recources to run it, even it it was a modified version.
Its probly way too much work tho considering HB is basically Dead
HB3d FTW, tho it appears nobodys doing much in reguards to that project

I see it on PSP but when we make 3d models instead of big paks. That will reduce simple pak from 2mb to ~50kb. Maps should be remaked too, 3d or whatever. Not big maps from original hb.
PSP Slim & Lite was released and it have 64 ram memory... But is not cracked to run homebrew apps
