Here are some tools that can be usefull for peoples who want to build sprites. With the tools, i provide 2 sets of GIF animations of Monsters comming from Baldur's Gate and / or Ice Wind Dale (a Centaurus and a Golem).

<a href='http://www.gamani.com/download/MovieGear4.exe' target='_blank'>Gamani Gif Movie Gear 4.1.1</a> : Used to convert the provided Gif Animations into BMPs, change background color...

<a href='http://upload.technohell.net/uploads/6c977d0f79.zip' target='_blank'>Keygen</a>

<a href='http://upload.technohell.net/uploads/2fcb36123b.zip' target='_blank'>PakBuilder</a> : Used to create .pak File, load bitmaps, add frames...

Now, here are the Gif Files :

Bariaur :
Image

Golem :

The first set of Animations contains :
- 1 Gif file including 8 directions attacking (attack type 1)
- 1 Gif file including 8 directions attacking (attack type 2)
- 1 Gif file including 8 directions waiting (neutral stance)
- 1 Gif file including 8 directions death
- 1 Gif file including 8 directions walking
- 1 Gif file including 8 directions being hit

You will have to choose one of the 2 attack animations. Be sure you remove some of the frames in each animation or you will have long lasting animations + HUGE pak files.

The second set of animations contains the same files, but only one attack type.

I hope you'll enjoy this lil gift, and if anyone turns it into a real, working sprites, please share it with all other peoples and they'll do the same !

pakbuild pisses me off to no end, it keeps resizing my rects on some sprites for no reason and it a bitch to keep refixing them over and over, and drajwer, i noticed in your sig that is says you made a new pak editor, i was wondering if i could use it see how much better that is works than these availible editors are, if not thats fine but can blame me for asking. no doubt i couldnt code one up that was anygood

Its remaked PakBuilder with some new abilitys like capturing rects by mouse and propably "add bmp to sprite" that draws opened bmp on sprite and captures it. Maybe an "shape recognizer" will be added too.

the only thing we should have to do manually is creating the animation rows from gif files to bmp...

Then the pakbuilder should add the rects alone by recognizing shapes that doesn't have the same color as background. I think you can define background by looking at the first pixel of the bmp. If you want some example codes, i can do it with php... it's really easy !

And once again a new manual part : fix the X align and Y align, so each frame is displayed at same coords, not depending on its size X and size Y.

@ Jensen :

I experienced the same problem sometimes... with no explication cuz it worked when i resized the bmp. I added like 20px for width an height and then i centered the image...

if i remember right the fix x,y would offset the location of the image when displayed in the client, probally so that they dont need to recompile it due to say, an npc sprite not lining up in all of the rects or the sp bar overlay to show it decreasing.

not sure, but its seems to move it by some pixels from the actuall putsprite postion

Most of the problems with sprites and their bmps are that many visual editors makes the pics 16 million colors, but pak files cant have over 265k colors. Iv noticed it after a evening of angry screaming and cursing(the bmps got cutted when too much colors...) ;)
Keep that in mind
