Having coded your own client, there is no need to patch hacks...Tequila
I don't actually patch any hacks...
There is a really more powerfull way...
And overcomming that wouldbe near impossible, or possible only, If programer decide to log instead....
(I mean very few people would be able to do that, and no possible "ready to use" hack program possible.)
NB: If you give closer look to Siementec v2.20 client/gserver source (available here) for Anti-Hack routines, you'll find very poor functions, many mistakes really easy to avoid. They had no Anti-Hack concern. That's the reason why so much Hackers performed so much things.
If you give a closer look to HBx v2.24 sources, you'll see many "point defence" functions, but no fix to Siementec errors. As a matter of fact, the team exploded before obtainnig a rally "finished" product; even if they achieved a fine result.
Then as many servers use either Siementec gservers or lightlly modified HBx2.24 servers, and unmodifyed clients, It's possible (easy) to hack there.
But if the server's coder has a real Anti-Hack concern, it's more difficult.
Finally if he has also control over the client (own coded client), it will be really difficult to hack undetected...
