It does check for files but then it doesnt run.

That's why you disconnect. Gameguard isn't running.

That may be my problem, only that because my client refuses to run, it can not update; hence, I do not have gameguard. As you suggested adding in the line "husky" in the shortcut, it would force an over-ride, but I can not connect because of game guard =(
Is there any way I can procure a copy of the gameguard version for this game, or even bypass it?

You can emulate it, though you'd have to sniff their servers address and in which folder they keep GameGuard. Here is a tutorial for another game with GameGuard:

1) Download the attachment and extract it to any folder
2) Goto the main web directory of your webserver software
3) Create a folder named "pub", and go inside the folder<span style='color:red'>*different for cabal</span>
4) Create a folder named "nProtect", and go inside the folder<span style='color:red'>*different for cabal</span>
5) Create a folder named "U_GBOUND", and go inside the folder<span style='color:red'>*different for cabal</span>
6) Create a folder named "GameGuard", and go inside the folder<span style='color:red'>*different for cabal</span>
7) Create a folder named "RealServer", and go inside the folder<span style='color:red'>*different for cabal</span>
Copy the files from the attachment into this folder
9) Explore to "C\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" and open the hosts file
10) Add the following line:
127.0.0.1 gamedown.ijjimax.com <span style='color:red'>*different for cabal</span>
11) Save your hosts file, and make sure its read-only

Also you'd have to see what the lowest REV is that works. Attached is a Rev 786, though it's for Gunbound so I don't know if it works for Cabal.
