depends.. on your isp.... if you are on a DHCP config, the ip will change if you sometimes reset your connection, or the lease expires and issues you a new ip, etc. if that's not the case, you can try unplugging your router/modem for a few minutes before plugging back in and it may issue a new ip. that's what i do when my line goes out sometimes. also there are other options like editing the registry but that isn't recommended unless you know what you are doing. let me know what router/modem you use and whether or not your isp issued a DHCP config.

so your ip changes... but uhm did you try unplugging and plugging back in after a few minutes. to see if it would issue a new ip. that or you could edit the registry and change your whole subnet mask and other configs. not recommended though unless you know how to do it.

Well, he might also have to hit the reset button on the back of the DSL Modem. I've had some issues with DSL myself, and well, the only way to fix 'em is to reset them. Isn't there also an option to set your own IP to use?

I think that's only with routers, unless you bought a range of ip's from your ISP?

You can setup your network IP addresses almost however you like. Your one given to you by your ISP is up to what IP address range they own, and if you've been given Dynamic or Static.
